Hang during the boot
Hi guys, i am new in linux. But since i need to use it for my work i have to learn it. My company is using Redhat Enterprise 4 . So i took an old box Dell Precision 410 with Dual P3 Processor, 1 G of RAM to install redhat.
The installation seems pretty smooth although it is a little bit slow. Here is my setting: Mount Point Size / 10G /tmp 10G swap 2G /build(in hdb) MAX Everything for the package installation. Selected "No firewall" and the rest are default. After the installation, the Box reboot and appear this message during the boot. http://img253.imageshack.us/my.php?i...6071433ym5.jpg I can't even login to there. May i know what is the problem? hardware failure or??? Thanks in advance |

wait for a while.. about 30 minutes.. it may be detecting network..
to be sure shift to other view... ctrl f1/f2/f3/f4/f5/f6/f7? |
Smells to me of hardware failure, but too early to be sure. Test your RAM and HDD . . . can't hurt to be safe.

No, that's not a network-related problem. Although it's too soon to tell, I suspect a hardware issue . . . test your RAM and HDD and let us know what happens. Can't hurt to be safe anyway.

what is the H/W configuration?
its look like system hung after GURB bootloader selection. give a try to boot into single user mode, follow below steps to boot into single user mode. If you are using GRUB, use the following steps to boot into single-user mode: If you have a GRUB configured. Select Red Hat Linux with the version of the kernel that you are currently using and press "e" for edit. You will be presented with a list of items in the configuration file for the title you just selected. Select the line that starts with "kernel" and type e to edit the line. Go to the end of the line and type "single" or "1" as a separate word (press the [Spacebar] and then type single). Press [Enter] to exit edit mode. Back at the GRUB screen, type "b" to boot into single user mode. let us know the result. |
I think it may be related to not using a /boot partition and labels. The system isn't even loading the initrd.. Thats probably because it cannot find the /boot/initrd...
Just a thought. |
