Thanks for the help, I was able to find and kill the processes you mentioned and deleted the locks. I also deleted my desktop configuration file which seemed to help.
Now I have lost the RHN notification icon at the lower right corner of the panel. What do I do to restore the icon and make it live again?
Thanks again for the help. I wonder what caused several gconfd-2's to be running at the same time?
This problem is not going away, even if I kill the gconfd-2 process and delete the locks mentioned above. Typically the initial boot or reboot worked OK, but if I log out and then log back in I get the error message all over again.
What is causing this? Is there anything I can delete to have rebuilt or manually rebuild to correct this?
I can't think of anything that I have installed or done that preceeded this problem. Today I installed the Ximian Desktop 2 (I like the Dropline style theme better than the default RH Bluecurve) to see if that might resolve the problem, but the same error occurs.
I remember changing permissions on some of my user files that I had copied to a CD and then back. Could I have accidently changed a user permission or owner setting for 1 or more of the gnome desktop files?
I normally keep the machine in question on all the time and log in and out as needed.
