Gdm login screen won't start
Hi,
I hv a z820 workstation install with red hat Linux ws 6.7 . Somehow or rather it just won't go to the gdm login prompt . It hang at a graphics screen with a mouse cursor on the left corner . I cannot key anything at all. Thus to by pass I press key ctrl alt f2 and a login prompt came out . Than I login and run command startx which it launch a gui desktop but in the gui I cannot only see desktop icon and some files , the gnome-panel is not visible and even if I do a right click on a file to use gedit it also does not open the gedit function. Can anyone help Regards Vincent |
When you use the startx command, it runs a script in your home directory called .xinitrc. This will end with an exec command. It should say something like "exec gnome-session".
gdm runs a different script called .xsession. You can look at this one too and see what the differences are. https://unix.stackexchange.com/quest...sion-for#47426 |
