Fundamental question re patching

Hi,

If I have a RHEL5.5 Server and patch it from RHN, will it become a RHEL5.7 Server automatically?

If (e.g.) my app is only certified to run on RHEL5.5 then how might I patch it without it becoming a RHEL5.7 Server?

A) Yes
B) Only install the patches/packages you are required to install

Potentially, you can also login to RH and go to the download page and download the ISO(s) for RHEL 5.5 and create a local repo and only update from there. That will keep you at v5.5.
Depends what it is you want to update
