First time Kernal comiling
Hello folks,
I hope this was not recenlty covered. I have Core 3, kernal 2.6.9-1.667 All I'd like to do is recompile an "existing" kernal, not upgrade or patch. First, both pieces of documentation tell me to go to the /usr/src/linux directory. However, I don't have one, but I do have a /usr/src/redhat directory, so I tried the following from there. make menuconfig and get this error no rule to make target "menuconfig" . Stop Also, there is nothing in this redhat directory, which leads me to think I need to get the source. But, where from? I'd rather not download it as I have a dialup. I have 4 CDs that came with this. Again, I don't want to upgrade kernal, just recompile. thanks, Mark |
You will need the kernel-source and kernel-headers packages from your RedHat CD. What you have installed is the default precompiled kernel that the installer puts on your machine.

OK, thanks much. But, which CD?
What is the easiest way to get the source from the CD to the drive? Meaning, how do I know what CD this stuff is one? thanks, Mark |
