Finding out the last time linux was switched on

Hi,

Is there any way to find out the time that linux was switched on?

Preferable would be if there is a log somewhere that records the system goings on, like when it was turned on and off, and stuff like if it was shut down properly. (I am using red hat 9)

Thanks,

Xgkkp

You could try the command ' uptime ' which tells you how long the system has been running or perhaps the command ' w ' which tells you login info, like times and whatnot. just a tip, i'm a newb myself.

cat /var/log/messages | grep processor
should give you the startup times.

Ahh, thanks, I'l try both of those when I next get onto my pc.

Would that same log store the times that the computer was shut down aswell?
