Question Filesystem set to read-only after reboot (RHEL3 ES)

Hello all,

I have a server that always has the root filesystem set to read-only every time the box is rebooted. As I am still basically a newbie *NIX I am not sure where to look or what to look for that might be causing this issue.

Also, would / being set to RO on boot cause syslog to not start properly?

Thank you in advance!

if i am not wrong syslog is a daemon taking part in system log functions so maybe is not related to read only setting

syslog is set to be started under run levels 2-5 yet isn't starting automatically when the box is booted. Since / is still set to RO after the boot process completes I was thinking the issues might be related.

The fact that I have to execute "mount /dev/sda2 -o rw,remount" after every reboot of this box in order for it to allow anything to be written to /.
