File association problem

How do i make an association stick?? when i change the association of a icon on the desktop it works only once when i click on it then the second time i click it, it reverts to the old association until i right click it and reassociate it again and i have to keep right clicking and reassociating it.

Hi,

Double click your "Start Here" icon on your desktop. Then double click Preferences, then File Types and Programs. Do it through there and it will stick for you.

Good luck.

Its still not working. Everytime i click on my trash or start here I get " Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying " whatever i try to open. I can open things one time then I always get this message. The only way to not get the message is to go into file types change over but it still does not stick. It works one time normally then i get the message.

Howzit

try going to terminal and type the cmd file filename this will tell what type the file is then try choosing the right association. The only reason I can see that the file reverts back to the original is that the extention is changed but the file header is still the same. Linux see the header then reverts it back I´m not sure how to change this. vi /usr/share/magic this is the place that id the files on u´r system

Don´t know if this helps but hey at least we try :D

SAME HERE

I'm having the same problem as BajaNick. The file association won't stick. I've tried the first two methods. I didn't try aqoliveira's method yet.

BajaNick...did aqoliveira's method work?

If not... can anyone else help us out?

Thanks.

No that dosnt work, I have to right click then choose file association and then open up the trash but that only works once. Everytime i want to open the trash bin I have to associate it with nautilus before i can use it. Is there a way to make the file associations stay? Thanks
