Is anyone out there currently using zyrion and would care to share their pro's and con's Thanks

I've had previous experience working with this product for quite a while providing support for NetVigil. It was previously known as Fidelia NetVigil so if you Google "NetVigil" you can dig up more information and reviews of the product. Its feature set and scalability have made it popular with ISPs and larger corporate environments, but it's easy to deploy and install for a small or mid-size environment as well. On the flip side, the project is not open source (though it is built on OSS like MySQL, Perl, and Tomcat). There is a free edition that allows monitoring of a small sites, but any larger environment would need the commercial version.

Thanks Jay. In your past experience with this product what did you think of the capacity planning and root cause analysis? Overall would you recommend this product? We are a small to mid size shop and growing more in the vmworld. We are currently using solar winds but that product is fairly limited to our needs. Looking for something a little more robust.

We have been using Zyrion's product, and I would classify it as the "next step up" from basic products like SolarWinds or WhatsUp. We were outgrowing our SolarWinds basic monitoring functionality, and past experience with Nagios and similar open-source solutions showed that it took too much time and effort to manage (hidden costs). The other options like HPOV & BMC frankly terrify us because of their legendary deployment costs, but we might be biased.

We were looking for a monitoring solution for our 200+ router/server environment to replace Solarwinds (yes, i realize SolarWinds can monitor thousands of devices, but our needs were evolving from basic monitoring to requirements like capacity planning, SLA reports, custom application monitoring, etc). We found 4-5 products which we could classify as enterprise level without the heavy deployment baggage of OpenView. We looked at Zyrion, Nimsoft and one "open source commercial" product. We selected Zyrion Traverse and have been happy with our decision (especially its service container functionality), but i suggest doing a quick download and evaluation - IMHO if you are going to be stuck with a product for 5+ years, might as well spend 5 days evaluating it.
