Have you looked at the lights on the card? Have you looked at the hub, or switch where the server plugs in? What is the status of those lights?

If you can ping the gateway your network adapter is working correctly. If you can not ping google but can ping 66.102.9.103 successfully then all you need to do is add a name server to your /etc/resolv.conf file. DHCP automatically updates resolv.conf but not when you manually configure the network.

No, i can't ping anything (Destination Host Unrichble)

It can be a driver problem??

You should have used RHEL 5.4 DVD, not 5.0. It this RHEL even legal? If it is, then add additional PCI NIC (Realtek 8139 is the best for linux support) and update the system. If I remember correctly there could have been the problem for Marvel NIC's of 5.0 kernels, but was resolved later on.

If you have not paid for RHEL, then better use CentOS, it is in almost any way the same thing but CentOS is free of charge.

Yes it is legal (My boss has paid it...), Unfortunately I could use only RHEL 5.0 DVD

If you can not add any kind of NIC to download updates, I think you can request from Red Hat 5.4 media (DVD) and reinstall it.

Maybe, but chances are it isn't.

If you've already followed the advice of others here, and checked the patch cord, looked at the card to see if you've got activity lights, etc., you're a good part of the way there. First, verify with your network admin that your netmask and address are correct. A "Destination Unreachable" could very well be that you haven't configured a default route, which you can also get from your network admin. To test this, see if you can ping another address on the same network. Based on what you posted, it will be something like 192.168.100.xxx. If you can ping something else there, it's a gateway issue. Try:
Code:
route add default gw <ip address>
Then see if you can ping something on a different network. And as others have mentioned, the DNS resolution needs to be configured too, so you can ping by hostname.

Please don't post things like this. It's impossible to read and understand, and will NOT fix the OP's original issue. All this is doing is starting network services. If the driver isn't loaded, this won't do it. If it's not configured right, this doesn't address it. This is pointless for the OP to try.

Arrow kernel

hlo,

maybe I'm completely wrong, but is it possible to upgrade the kernel in that distro...?

I think your ethernet-card is newer than the kernel, so that's maybe a reason it doesn't work...
(I've had the same thing in PCLinuxOS 2009 with a new laptop (Marvell Ethernet card was completely dead in linux), had to install a more recent kernel (downloading it on another computer and install it via the kernel...)
=> or did you install that distro previously and worked that card at that moment?

If you can't upgrade your kernel (and if that's the problem) in RHEL 5.0, try then another distro (like CentOS indeed)

Hope this helps
