Equiv of /dev/rmt/0cbn in RedHat 8?

All,

I installed an Exabyte 8250 on my IBM M Pro Intellistation and I can write, read, and so forth, but I have been unable to find anything with regard to using hardware compression - on Solaris it is " tar -cvf /dev/rmt/0cbn" for Compressed, Berkeley, Non-Rewind, but I have only found /dev/nst0 as a non-rewinding tape device - does a device exist for specifying hardware compression or am I just plain lame? Well, I know I'm not that bright, but if you could help, many thanks in advance!
