Enabling FTP

I need to enable FTP on my RHEL4 box but doing ftp localhost on the same box gives
Quote:
ftp: connect: connection refused
from a windows machine (where I need to be connecting from) I get:
Quote:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\M>ftp <IPADDRESSHERE>
> ftp: connect :Unknown error number
ftp>
enabling gsftp gives me this problem

IIRC: gsftp is an ftp client, you need to use it with an ftp server.

... so how did you set up the ftp server?

Thanks for the reply Simon, I found that I needed to install vsftpd and also that gsftp and vsftpd shouldn't be running at the same time. I thought it'd be able to handle FTP requests out of the box. In case you haven't guessed I had no idea how to setup a FTP server.
