Enabling DMA with no hdparm

I was previously using slackware 9.2 and when I ran hdparm noticed huge improvements in the performance!

However, over the weekend I installed FC1 and when I tried to run hdparm this program was not installed.

How do I DMA enable my hda and cdrom drives?
