email server help for newbie

I'm still new to Linux. But I have loaded Redhat server on a couple machines & use them as file servers in a mostly windows network. The best thing about the Redhat OS is it just works & works, which is unlike windows.

Anyway I'd like to create & maintain an email server on a Redhat machine. I have a .com address & a roadrunner business line. Is this something a newbie can do????

Any suggestions/advice or direction to books/articles on this would be greatly appreciated.

yes, a basic smtp server is a very achievable thing. exmi and postfix are generally the easiest popular "full-on" mail servers on unix. the documentation on their respective sites should be more than enough to get you going. When i first moved from sendmail to exim, it took only a few minutes stepping though the config file, and obey the comments in it like "change this to your FQDN"... not that tricky at all!
