Editing Shutdown Script

Hi....I am a linux newbie.....

I have RedHat Linux 8.0 and KDE.

I want to edit my shutdown script as during the boot sequence, I am running a shell script to load the sound and TV Tuner modules. I would like to unload these modules in the shutdown script itself. However, I dont know which is the file that contains the shutdown instructions in RedHat 8.0.

I noticed a shutdown file, however, when i tried to open it using KWrite, it displayes junk characters.

Can anyone let me know the file in which i can place the instructions to unload ths sound and tv tuner drivers? Pls help :)

Maybe this will point you in the right direction...

You can look at the init scripts in /etc/init.d and make one for you TV stuff. Then you can also look at 'man chkconifg' and check out the -add option to add your script to the startup/shutdown sequence. 'man init' may help as well.

I hope this helps. I know that alot of people write custom scripts like this for Oracle startup/shutdown, so maybe you can look for some info about that on google.
