DVD Player for Red Hat 9?
What application should I be using to play DVD's with Red Hat 9? Does it install one by default?
I didn't see MPlayer on the list anywhere. |

it's a bunch of files to download, but it works super! Just saw my first dvd with it yesterday! |
Thanks, I'll check it out.

I've installed VideoLAN but my DVD's won't play. Do I need to do something to map /dev/dvd to my DVD player, which is currently on Cdrom1?
Not sure what is missing. |
I normally use Ogle or Mplayer
|
create a symbolic link from /dev/dvd to /dev/cdrom
that's what I have |
in your case cdrom1 of course
|
How do you create a symbolic link?
|
I changed the setting to /dev/cdrom1 in the input area. It works, but I have to select the dvd icon first. And the audio is crackling a bit too.
Getting closer. |
ooo.... audio settings - that's difficult stuff! try to change all kinds of audio settings, maybe it'll work =) otherwise - it's a separate post =)
symbolic link should be created like this: ln /dev/cdrom1 /dev/dvd |
Everything looks fine now. Audio crackling went away, so that might have just been a fluke. One more question. When I insert my DVD a folder list pops up. Is there a way to disable that behavior for DVDs? I really don't need to see the contents of the drive.
I appreciate the help. |
sure thing, mate! I'm just trying to compensate for the time people spent helping me... not that I'll ever reach that =)
just noticed my status doesn't say newbie anymore =) that's kinda cool =) in a supernerdish way =) anyway, run gnome-control-center. select CD-properties. there you should add this line in the bottom, under dvd settings: vlc dvd:%d on my computer it was there by default |
I've got KDE. Didn't see an option like that.
You keep this up and you'll blow past "Member" too. hehe |
well, can't help you there then!
I think you should get gnome, but that's just my opinion. Just look in a bunch of config files and you'll find it! C Ya! |
Okay buddy. A appreciate all the help!
