Dual booting RedHat 4.0 with Windows 2003 adv server
I was in the process of setting up 2 servers that are designed to be ftp servers and so I installed Windows 2003 adv serv and RedHat enterprise 4.0 upgrade 1 and after it was all installed I went to boot up into linux and it comes up with "grub error 17" after saying it is booting to "stage1.5"..... I have tried the rescuing and reinstalling grub, but nothing is seeming to work, so if anyone knows how to fix this I need a lot of help.........

read the grub manual about error 17
here it is http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/man...tage2%20errors for supported file systems http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/man....html#Features ==================== i had the same error few days ago...........i had linux on primary [ext2] partition and win xp on logical [ntfs] partition i don't really know what is goind on.........not much information in the grub manual maybe grub does not support logical or extended ntfs file system ! |
I figured it out, you have to prepare for the dual boot before you even install linux by creating a mass that I named as windoze and tell it what partition it is going to be on after you install linux, then you edit the grub to allow it to be bootable, and it works.... peace

Linux does not support NTFS filesystems
so this is the main problem |
