Dual Boot XP and RH9 issues

Hi all i am a Linux Dummy but i am really not a computer dummy i need some help with my RH Lilo conf i installed XP Pro and have been running that fine so i thought to install RH 9 well i went through the install Fine and Dandy and when it came time to choose a Boot Loader (Grub was default) i chose Lilo ( a friend told me since i am a n00b in linux to use lilo ) so neways i finish the install and the system rebooted fine with the exception that i didnt get any boot menu .... i have XP set as the Default so i thought i messed up and maybe needed to set RH as default so i got my trusty boot disk and booted linux from that and it loaded just fine i then changed the default to linux and rebooted the machine ....still no go. Please some one help me i really want to learn linux but first i need to get to learning the installtion LOL. In short i have a 80 gig HD split in half XP on 1st 40 and RH9 on last 40, both installs (XP, RH9) work perfectly independantly but i dont get a menu letting me choose which OS i want to Load.

neways i have a 80 gig IDE drive set up with XP on 40 gigs of it and when i installed i let it do an automatic partition and linux took the other 40 gigs, here is how the boot loader is setup (lilo.conf file) :

prompt
timeout=300
default=XP
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
message=/boot/message
linear

image="/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-8"
label="linux"
initrd="/boot/initrd-2.4.20-8.img"
read-only
append="hdd=ide-scsi root=LABEL=/"

other=/dev/hda1
optional
label=XP

When I installed RHL 9 to my current XP machine, the first thing i did was partion it using partition magic. What I believe happened during your installation was that you installed it on the same partition that your XP is installed. Because of this, Lilo only recognizes XP. Try partitioning your drive, and then reinstalling RHL9. I just want to note, I am a noob, so someone else may have an easier solution.

well i know that the partitions are fine because i have 1 NTFS partition of 40 gigs and then the other 40 gigs is broke into 3 other linux partitions the 2 os's are not on the same partition

Hello,

Please replace "linear" keyword with "lba32" in /etc/lilo.conf and

run "lilo" command once. Then reboot.

Hope, this will solve your problem.
