Welcome to the world of Linux. If you want a good software for updates use up2date or yum, they'll most probably already be on your system. If you need new packages, yum will usually also do the trick. There's a graphical interface for it called yumex which gives you package lists to choose from. You can also extend the package list by installing new repositories. If you need software sources, go to sourceforge, you'll find practically anything there. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Google is also your friend. Search for any utility and you'll find it there.

RED HAT 9.0

thanx for ur reply, but there's a problem,

i'm having a winmodem so i cannot access net from linux. can i download stuff using windows & then install them on linux?? if so can u give me the website so i can access directly without using yum??

Yeah you can do that. Not sure about one certain site that supplies Red Hat 9 packages exclusively. Haven't used Red Hat in a long long time. Do a google search for "Red Hat 9" "RPMs". The only problem with RPMs is the dependency problems that might come up (A package won't install because something's missing on the system). Yum would solve that problem, but you can't use it..
