Does emacspeak work on Rh9? It's not an emergency since I'm not blind or anything
Hi
I just have to know what everything does or what everything is supposed to do.
emacspeak is supposed to speak to me and it doesn't. I could probably go on living and all knowing it doesn't work, but I don't think I'd want to live in a crazy world such as that.
From the sparse info that I've read through, it seems as though emacspeak may not work at all with RH9.
Can anybody else out there get it to worK?
I have a regular old RH9 install with 0.9.8 Alsa and have updated the glibc stuff like Redhat told me to do. IT TOOK ALL DAY TO COMPILE.
I have the volume turned up.
I can get festival to work reading a text file via --tts
I have added this to my /etc/profile :
export DTK_PROGRAM
DTK_PROGRAM=/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/emacspeak/servers/dtk-exp
(I think I just need DTK_PROGRAM=dtk=exp instead of the whole path but I tried that and it still doesn't work)
I've tried
cd /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/emacspeak/servers/
tcl dtk-exp
%q "work God Damn it!"
%q "ok work please"
%d
blatant threats does not make it talk back either. The above test yields zilch.
so anyhoo,
I just type emacspeak at a command prompt at it opens up and works just fine but:
A. No speech
B. Hangs after about the 3rd or 4th C-h or whatever combination I use.
I have to open up another terminal ps -ef and then kill this process:
root 3629 3628 0 00:48 ttyS0 00:00:00 /usr/bin/tcl /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/emacspeak/servers/dtk-exp
to regain emacspeak again.
but after that I can't exit emacspeak and have to shoot it in the head too.
So the big questions are
1. The example of the emacspeak process I have to kill is listed as ttyS0
does that sound right for software emulation?
2. Can any one using Rh9 try to see if it speaks?
I guess that's about it for now.
Thank you for your time and other stuff.
