What is the difference between say xterm and bash?

Bash is the command line interface(CLI) that run within an xterm or console.Xterm is the terminal emulator.

In the DOS/windows platforms bash is compareable to command.com (only huge powerfull than), xterm is compareable to command-prompt/cmd.exe (only far far usefull than) ..
But there are many other shells(CLI) in linux other than bash like tcsh, csh not like in windows only command.com ..

bash is the interface between a user and the kernel. xterm is just simply a program that allows you to access bash.
