detecting internal modem


i'm havin redhat 9,
i hav a 56K internal modem, when i tried to setup internet connection its not detecting the modem. is there any way that it can detect the modem?
can u plz help me out?

find out what chipset is on your modem. then search this site for answers. and maybe www.linmodems.org

Well, you have a conexant HSF chipset. This means you have two options:

1. If you use a 2.4 series kernel you can get the last beta series drivers here:
http://www.int21.de/conexant/
Even though they're beta, I've found them to be much more stable than the Windows drivers.

2. If you want to use a 2.6 series kernel you have to purchase the driver here:
http://www.linuxant.com

Both were written by the same guy, Marc Boucher.
