Question Dell GX260 and RedHat 8

The HCL at Red Hat lists the GX260 as compatible, but I have never been able to get the video to display properly on my Viewsonic GS790. After my recent kernel upgrade, the display is text mode with garbage characters. Before the upgrade, the windows were always too large and I could not reduce the size to fit on the screen at any resolution. I use the graphics chip on the motherboard and updated drivers.

I upgraded from RedHat 7 to 8 because the graphics didn't work. I don't see myself risking RedHat 9.

I'd be grateful for any help with this.
