Configure RH 9.0 to Dial Bellsouth.net
 

I want to run RH 9.0 instead of WinXP, so I purchased disks and new HDD. Install went very smoothly and all hardware was detected with exception of WinModem. I purchased an external USR Courier and using KPPP I'm able to dial Bellsouth.net, however shortly after handshake begins the connection is dropped. I used the default settings in KPPP. Bellsouth does not provide any support outside of Microsoft or Apple. Can someone help me figure out what setting needs to be changed? Thanx! --greg

Does KPPP throw back any error message at you? Another user not recently was having authentication problems with KPPP and needed to remove some kind of prefix at the start of his userID. I'm in the UK so I dont know much about you yanks and your strange telephone system!

When I run the log, it only says that the connection was closed by the server unexpectedly. This happens shortly after all the lights go solid on the Courier modem.

The last time I used RH was version 6.0 and as I remember, I had no problems connecting to Bellsouth.net. However that was several years ago.

I would not switch OS except that I'm planning on switching to DSL in less than a month when it becomes available in my area. Due to the always on connection, I wanted a more secure OS. Also I'm not happy with MS changes in OS activation and validation. This is my way of protesting.

I do not have to use KPPP if there is another way to easily dial out. However since I've not used Linux that much, I have a greater comfort level if I can stay in a graphical enviroment. RH 9.0 is much more friendly than I remember 6.0 during setup.
