CentOS upgrade?

Hi,
at moment I'm using CentOS 5.8, i386.
Why if I do "yum update" my system don't becomes Centos 6?
thank you

CentOS doesn't support major version upgrades (e.g. 5 -> 6) but 5.6 -> 5.8 are still supported and encouraged. If you're feeling up to the challenge, you can try out the Migration HowTo on the CentOS wiki: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Migrat...atingFiveToSix

Ok,thankyou for your reply.
One question: Centos 6 is "stable"? If I need to install a new CentOS system, your suggestion is install Centos 5.8 or Centos 6?

Yes, CentOS 6.2 is stable and if this was like a brand new installation then I definitely recommend CentOS 6.2 since its EOL is 2020, so it'll be supported for much longer than CentOS 5.8.
