Cannot start X window system since installing Pango
 

I installed Pango with the --prefix /usr option inorder to provide the neccesary dependencies for installing Anjuta, which I am trying to install. Once Pango was installed and I restarted the box (several hours later), I can no longer start the X windows system. When I type 'startx' at the command prompt, the screen flickers twice them goes back to the command prompt. Thanks in advance. I really need Xwindows for some apps I use everyday.
