can reinstall the rpm package without delete the rpm package
 
redhat linux not run.
/var/log/xfree86.0.log
could not init fon path element unix/:7100 removing font lost.
fatal server error
could not open default font 'fixed' when reporting a problem related to a server crash.. please send teh full server output not just the last message.
this can be found in the log file 'var/log/Xfree86.0.log'
XIO:fatal IO error1004(connection request by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known process) with 0 events remaning.

due to upper error message
xfree86-xfs.rpm, xfree86-base-fonts.rpm, xfree86-4.3.0.2.rpm wouldl reinstall.

upper mentioned package already installed in my system
typed 'rpm -e xfree86-xfs' in commandl prompt
failed dependcies message appear
xfree86-4.3.0-2
chkfontpath

so, typed 'rpm -e xfree86' in command prompt
failed dependcies appear
roughly, twenty item is printed
what to delete many rpm pacakge is inconvenient.

can reinstall the rpm package without delete installed rpm package

The problem you refer to is one I have experienced myself. I solved the problem by setting the FontPath in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to unix:/-1. This could well work in your case as well.
