Can't launch redhat-network-control after updating gnome-control-center

I have a problem with the redhat-network-control script (launches the program I use to dial up to my ISP) since I upgraded from gnome 2.2 to gnome 2.4.
The script references something (a variable?, an export?) called gnome.ui that does not find anynore.
This hangs redhat-network-control and redhat-network-config upon launching them.
In both cases it's the same reference to gnome.

What did I brake and how do I repair it?
Any alternative way of connecting to the internet (I'm thinking about installing kppp, but I don't know if it will work.)
Thare's a rpm called gnome-network. I think I don't have it in my RH9, so maybe it replaces the redhat tool and works well with gnome 2.4?
This happened after I upgraded gnome-control-center. I had sucessfully updated nautilus and gnome-desktop and gnome-panel to verison 2.4.

Thanks for your help.
