can't network two PC's with RH 7.1 installed to them

i can't network two PC's with redhat 7.1 as OS and an ethernet hub as the medium....the error message always comes out and says that the connection was refused when attempting to contact.... i don't know if the firewall is the one causing the problem.... i have checked the ip addresses of both PC's.... i have also checked the LAN cards of both PCs.. i am using PEntium 1 and Pentium 3 PCs just for info... thanks

Do you get link lights on the hub?

Can you post the output from the following on both machines:
ifconfig
