Can't boot red hat following windows xp reinstallation

Please can someone help. I had red hat 9 and windows xp running seamlessly on the same computer, i then had to reinstall windows xp and now the lilo boot selector screen does not appear so I can't boot red hat. Any advise would be gratefully received, thanks

Welcome to LQ.

If you boot with RedHat CD1 and at the "boot:" prompt type "linux rescue" it will bring you to a shell. Change your root directory to your install "chroot /mnt/sysimage". Then you can reinstal lilo to the MBR "lilo -M /dev/hda".

this may work

you should be able to just pop in RH9 CD and reinstall Lilo, and that should work.

Booting into Rescue Mode
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...mode-boot.html

Your lilo.conf should be located in the /etc directory.
