Anyone know whether RHEL5 will ship with PHP5?

Hi all.

After a trawl around the web for information about what will and what won't be in the forthcoming Redhat Enterprise Level 5, can anyone tell me whether PHP5 (in any form) will be shipped as standard? We're running out of patience and resources with PHP4 at the moment :|

Thanks
Dave Small

We're using managed hosting via Rackspace and would prefer to stay fully managed. I believe that upgrading to PHP5 on RHEL4 would invalidate our support contract... or might I be wrong?

Thanks

Why not just email Redhat and ask them? Personally I think they will ship php 5.x because RHEL 5 is supposed to be based on FC5 (and maybe FC6) which has php 5.x.

Yes, I could do that, and they may well respond. However, I thought this group would be good to ask this type of question to... as RHEL5 has been released in Beta form, and will be shipped later this year/early next year...

I imagined there would be people who could answer my question directly and knowledgably...

I get your drift. In this case though, the people who are likely to have accurate answers are those at Redhat and thats why I suggested you email them. In the past I've had prompt responses from Novell and Redhat.

I d'loaded and installed the RHEL5beta1 today and using/testing it right now. Here's the output from the terminal if it helps answer your question.

Hi Phil. Thanks for this - looks like it's PHP5 then, which ties in with a personal email I got from a RedHat sales rep a few days ago who said the same thing - that RHEL5 will indeed ship with PHP5...

Thanks again.
