AMD64-Redhat Important.

Hi,
I have to run Redhat 9 on a AMD64 Opteron to test a 64bit enginering software.

What hapens if I install 32bit Redhat and 64bit program ? Does it works? Or do I have to compile a 64bit kernel? Or what must I do do run a 64Bit program on Redhat.

What happens if I install Redhat 9 directly, then download 64bit gcc and compile kernel as 64bit. Then download sources of necessary libraries and compile them for 64bit too.
Does 64bit and 32 bit libs and drivers etc work together?
I have read an article that writes, they can both work together becouse AMD64 support both X86 and X86_64.
