ADS / winbind / samba / kerberos HELP!!!

hi,

I am running Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4, and am attempting to workaround some problems but it doesn't seem to be working thus far.

Well, here is my problem.

I have sucessfully joined a domain "A" using net rpc join -S blahblah -U myname and can pull a listing of users and groups through winbind. Problem is, all information being pulled is for Domain "B". I have gone through a few manuals, and have largely based my efforts on the docs hosted by Samba.org.

I know I need to post some configs, but if you have time, let me know what you would like to look at and I will post it up here... rather than aimlessly posting everything.

Edit: for additions below -
I have run an ethereal query on my nic, and all my requests are going to the correct DC. There is no communication to the DC in the second domain whatsoever.

There is also a one way trust between these domains. However, there isn't anyhting within my configs that specify that second domain or DC.

thanks a lot for any help you can give,
-Me

I would want to see smb.conf and krb5.conf.

thanks centauricw,

It was making my hair stand on end, so I re-installed. I am about to start over again, with the latest packages this time. I will post them if I run into problems again.

thanks,

Ok,
Well last time I was joined to the correct domain but only pulled incorrect information. This time I can't join. I know there has got to be a typo somewhere in here.

I haven't tried RedHat's tools for winbind yet, but I'll wait on that until I get a response.

Thanks again for everything.

here are my smb.conf, and krb5.conf files

Here, also, is the error I receive while attempting to join the domain...

#net rpc join -S my.dc.ip.address -U myadminaccount
password: my_password

[2006/08/15 13:36:56, 0] utils/net_rpc_join.c:net_rpc_join_newstyle(350)
Error in domain join verification (credential setup failed): NT_STATUS_INVALID_COMPUTER_NAME

Unable to join domain NETLAB.

I made sure to remove my old computer account from the domain before I started.

thanks,

jsheffie 08-16-2006 09:01 AM

got it... the problem lies I guess in the order samba and winbind start.

I reordered a few things in smb.conf, putting these in global
winbind separator = +
winbind uid = 10000-20000
winbind gid = 10000-20000
winbind enum users = yes
winbind enum groups = yes
winbind use default domain = yes

Other than that, I shut down samba/winbind, and then started with winbind first.

I also changed the authorization mechanism from SMB to ADS (which strangley fixed my earlier problem of pulling info for a neighboring domain.)

All is well, so this can be considered closed I guess.

thanks guys,
-Me
