A basic script to turn DHCP server on and off

Hello,

Please forgive the simplicity of this question but I am new to this Linux (14 weeks to be exact). I am currently trying to write a script that will allow me to turn the simulated DHCP server on and off. According to instruction I may need to debug, but I'm not to concerned about that. This should be a basic script. Are there any suggestions?

I am not sure what you mean by a simulated DHCP server (unless this is some kind of a special setup for a school project or something), but if you have an actual DHCP server installed, I would think you would already have a script for this purpose. Probably /etc/init.d/dhcpd (at least that is what is was in some of the older RH I've worked with).

If this does not address your problem, you still might want to look in /etc/init.d. This directory contains many scripts for starting and stopping various services (these scripts are called with either a start or stop parameter), and you might learn a great deal by reading through and analyzing some of them.

Good luck!
