'Make install' errors


I am trying to compile a xvcg tool. Whenever i use 'make install' command to build i get the following errors

/usr/bin/ld command not found -lXext

Why am i getting such errors?

I have red hat linux 9
Also i have checked that all library files present.

But still i get that error

Please help me

As far as I know, 'ld' is a program that links libraries to the binary executable.
When installing RH you need to select "Development" option when an installer asks you to select packets to be installed then. [Hm... not sure u understand me ))) Sorry]

Install the binutils package. No idea how you managed to not install it, but install the compiler.
