various sound cards detected but not working after PuppyOffice203ce install
ran into some sound problems after re-installing puppy (I wanted to do an update, but I could not get x to work properly afterwards, so I wiped it off completely). I am now working with Puppy Office 203ce.
Before, I had Puppy Version 1.0.9. My Soundcards were not recognized, but alsa-config solved parts of this problem when run manually. Now alsa-config shows the following options: nm256 01:00.1 Class 0401: 10c8:8005 (rev20) opl3sa2 snd-op13sa2 legacy , but does totally fail doing something useful with either of them. That's old news, actually, but before reinstalling I could work around that by probing for some obscure legacy 8-bit soundchips, what then worked fine. Unfortunately it does not do the trick any more ("no legacy chips available")... Oh, and when starting alsa-config, there is a notification: "cp: copying multiple files, but last argument '/lib/modules/2.4.29/sound is not a directory" Has anybody any idea how to work a way around this? I would do nearly everything to avoid switching back to windows, but I need working sound. |
Nearly anything eh?
How much is a second hand sound blaster? Disable your on board sound and use the sound card. Hope that is an affordable and quick solution :) |
I have the op13sa2 driver running my ancient Yamaha sound card under Puppy 2.12b right now.
You say "sound cards". If you really have more than one, and one is built into the motherboard, try disabling that one in the BIOS before booting. And make sure "plug and play OS" is also disabled in the BIOS. Good luck, Mark |
