Run Frugal install from ram only
 

Hi

I love puppy and was drawn to it because it allows running from ram.

However, after a little testing I find a few issues with the clam.

When I run puppy install disk for the first time. I can confirm that everything is loaded and run from ram. Perfect.

However the moment I create a save file ( either on a usb stick or a frugal install ) I find that puppy reads to the file. Again I would be happy with that if it only happend once. But if I repeat the process of starting a browser and surfing a few pages, I can see my hard disk light flicker.

Idealy I would like to do a frugal install but have the save file and the puppy sfs file loaded ( on startup ) to a ram drive so any changes are written to ram. I would then like to write a script which would allow me to copy the save file to disk if I choose.

Can anyone suggest anyway on making sure puppy runs totally from ram when using a save file.

PS. I am currently working with Slacko, but its the same issue with other versions of puppy.

If you issue the command mount you might find that either or both the hard drive and the swap file/partition are mounted in puppy. That is my guess.

Sounds good but could you please explain how to because my shell level is limited to dos style scripts and not sure how to use it to change things so it all runs in memory. Also are you saying that the issue is NOT the save file but rather those paths being mounted to my hard drive. If so please explain how to change it.

I don't know for sure but this makes me suspect swap file/partition on hard drive is causing it. Or you have the hard drive mounted.

Open a terminal.

type in mount
