Puppy217 & Xp on a SATA Hd
Puppy works fine.
I tried to modify grub config, but still Xp wont boot. Any idea how? This is original created grub menu.list: # Other bootable partition config begins title Windows (on /dev/sda2) map (hd0,0) (hd0,1) map (hd0,1) (hd0,0) rootnoverify (hd0,1) makeactive chainloader +1 # Other bootable partition config ends # Other bootable partition config begins title Windows (on /dev/sda3) map (hd0,0) (hd0,2) map (hd0,2) (hd0,0) rootnoverify (hd0,2) makeactive chainloader +1 # Other bootable partition config ends # Linux bootable partition config begins title Linux (on /dev/sda4) root (hd0,3) kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda4 ro vga=normal # Linux bootable partition config ends # Other bootable partition config begins title Windows (on /dev/sda5) map (hd0,0) (hd0,4) map (hd0,4) (hd0,0) rootnoverify (hd0,4) makeactive chainloader +1 # Other bootable partition config ends |
and puppy works with the ''ro'' argument instead of the ''rw'' at sda4?

Try commenting out all the "map" lines (put a # in column 1).
That hasn't been required since Win95. And leave the Puppy line alone - the kernel is mounted ro (for fsck amongst other reasons), and automatically switched as part of the boot process. |
strange, mine doesn't work read only

Well, I should have said "normally it is ..."
Haven't tried puppy yet, but have been thinking about it - guess this will be a reason to download it and try. |
Whoa - hey, I'm impressed !!!.
Have to go find a box I can install it on, but the CD is seriously good on the box I tested on - Celeron, 512Meg RAM. Had to unload the prism2_pci module and load hostap to get the wireless working, but the distro is *GOOD* for its footprint. |
I use Puppy on my duron 750 with 64M of ram :D but with a full hd install  works great. The only Linux that I succeded to install on my old pc, I tried Xubuntu, Slackware, Zenwalk and none finished setup :scratch:
