Puppy 501 on a stick vs HD on Acer Aspire one

I have an Acer Aspire one with a 160gb hd. XP and Ubuntu dual boot I tried Puppy hd install but i have a problem with video refresh. It's very slow. When i run Puppy on a stick, no problem. I'm back to running Ubuntu and xp on the hd and Puppy on the USB stick again. Is there a setting to adjust for this problem or do i have to keep Pup on a stick?

Try a Puppy Linux Frugal Install. It will run Puppy in RAM, just like running it from your USB stick. Hope that solves the problem. :)

I take it Ubuntu is running fine?

So the question(s) are: Why would puppy run fine from a usb stick (full install or frugal?) and not from the HD? To me it sounds like the load order of drivers will somehow affect the video driver. Or, could it be that the driver loaded when running from the sub stick ain't the same as used when running from a full HD install?

Maybe do a lsmod or lsmod|grep video from the different setups and compare the results?

Sorry I can't give you more specific help.

My Aspire One ZG5 netbook runs puppy 5.01 with no problems. It has 1024x600 display size. Odd that yours won't run Puppy right, but it will run Ubuntu. Puppy 5.01 is Ubuntu-based, hence the name Lucid Puppy. If all else fails for you, try re-installing to a clean partition. I wonder which version of this netbook you have?

I also have both Lucid Puppy 5.01 AND Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 on another netbook, the Asus Eee 701SD, and both work just fine on that one, too.

My experience is the same as ax25nut's. I've also got a ZG5 (AOA150-1570 w/ 1GB RAM and 120GB HDD)
