Puppy 3.01 won't load into ram

I currently have puppy 2.12 on a live DVD from The Linux Bible, which works wonderfully running in ram. I haven't installed it to hard drive, but it has created the /pup_sav3fs file, and it has worked so flawlessly that I wanted to try 3.01. I d/l'ed the iso, opened it up to make sure that the files were in there, (like vmlinuz, etc.),checked the md5sums, used Barry Kahler's Burniso2cd, and put it into the DVD drive to reboot ..... when it reboots, it makes it as far as:
Code:

Loading the "pup_301.sfs" main file ... copying to ram ...    failed

Dumping last lines of /tmp/bootinit.log
Mount:/dev/hdd is write protected, mounting read-only ....
Mount:/dev/hdd is write protected, mounting read-only ....
reading '/mnt/dev_ro2/pup_301.sfs: Input/Output Error
Mount: Mounting /dev/loop0 on /pup_ro2 ...                          failed

Dumping last lines of kernel.log
<3> Buffer I/O error on device hdd, logical block 4794
<3> Buffer I/O error on device hdd, logical block 4795
<3> Buffer I/O error on device hdd, logical block 4796
<3> Buffer I/O error on device hdd, logical block 4797

Pausing for 60 seconds
Setup the Unionfs layered filesystem ....                          done

Perform a 'switch_root' to the new Unionfs filesystem ... kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init !

Then it just hangs there for hours ....... I have to manually shut down and start over. I get exactly the same messages if I try to run it in the CD drive, except, of course, it is called hdc ! Any help would be appreciated.

I have an HP Pavilion a1203w
1.8Ghz AMD Semperon Processor
512Mb ram
I'm currently running Beatrix Linux on the hard drive, as that's the only Linux distro that I have been successful at running for more than a week on this HP.

Is 2.12 is running from a DVD writeable media?

Did you burn 3.01 to a CDROM or to a CD writeable?

No, it's one of two DVDs which came with the book " The Linux Bible" and they have 16 different distributions on them.I just insert the disk each time and choose Puppy ... when I shut down, it puts all of my configurations into a file called /pup_save.3fs

I burned it at 8x to a CD-R with the burning app written by Barry Kahler which is included in 2.12. This is what it said to do on the Web Site if you didn't need to save it to a writable.

I suspect a problem with the CD, but that is only because I have no other ideas. :p In the past, I have had better luck with CDs (and DVDs for that matter), that are burned at the lowest available speed, so if you can go slower, it may help. If that is not an option, you might have to try burning the CD on another machine or purchasing a CD. FWIW, I have used and relied on a few Puppy versions for the type of situations in which Puppy excels, and 3.01 works as well as the others.

I think it's the drive .... I burned another one and it won't work either !
