Puppy 3.01 won't load into ram
I currently have puppy 2.12 on a live DVD from The Linux Bible, which works wonderfully running in ram. I haven't installed it to hard drive, but it has created the /pup_sav3fs file, and it has worked so flawlessly that I wanted to try 3.01. I d/l'ed the iso, opened it up to make sure that the files were in there, (like vmlinuz, etc.),checked the md5sums, used Barry Kahler's Burniso2cd, and put it into the DVD drive to reboot ..... when it reboots, it makes it as far as:
Code:
Loading the "pup_301.sfs" main file ... copying to ram ... failed I have an HP Pavilion a1203w 1.8Ghz AMD Semperon Processor 512Mb ram I'm currently running Beatrix Linux on the hard drive, as that's the only Linux distro that I have been successful at running for more than a week on this HP. |
Is 2.12 is running from a DVD writeable media?
Did you burn 3.01 to a CDROM or to a CD writeable? |

I suspect a problem with the CD, but that is only because I have no other ideas. :p In the past, I have had better luck with CDs (and DVDs for that matter), that are burned at the lowest available speed, so if you can go slower, it may help. If that is not an option, you might have to try burning the CD on another machine or purchasing a CD. FWIW, I have used and relied on a few Puppy versions for the type of situations in which Puppy excels, and 3.01 works as well as the others.

I think it's the drive .... I burned another one and it won't work either !
