No dell printers in cups (solved thanks)

Hello
I am running tahr64 605 on a dell vostro, 2.2ghz, 2gb ram. Its running cups 1.75, not the latest, and I am trying to install a dell 3000cn printer. Cups detects it but when I try to go further dell doesnt appear in the list.
I would try the latest cups 2.3b1 but dont know how and I am not sure if this would help anyway.
Has anyone any ideas.
Thanks
diode84

This page may help you: https://www.openprinting.org/printer/Dell/Dell-3100cn

It appears the plxcolor driver works, plus there looks to be a ppd file for your printer as well.

It works perfectly, thanks for that.
Have you any more links to sites that have cups printer drivers as I have a sharp arm-201 that openprinter.org doesnt include.

Did a couple of google searches and didn't find much. Openprinting shows a few of those Sharp "M" models. You might try the "plxmono" driver just to see if it works.

If it worked under ubuntu, then you are probably missing a package or something. Check out gutenprint or foomatic. Also see what filters you have installed - cups-filters or foomatic-filters. They are mutually exclusive so pick one and see if it works.

They both look very interesting sites. I will be out of normal contact for a few days but will carry on after the holidays. Thanks for the help and best wishes to you.
