monitor does not turn on after resuming from suspend

When I suspend to RAM and resume, my monitor (Philips CRT) does not turn ON. i think the system resumes from S3, but the monitor itself is unable to resume. i have this problem only when I use the graphical environment (Xvesa).

I dont have any problems with the monitor when i enter suspend state through a command line (no graphical environment).

Please help resolve this.
