The reason it was not made public is precisely because he was not in a position to maintain the forum at owner status. I am sure he had better things to do then hand over temp ownership to cover this eventuality . . .
makes no sense, you normally go down when there is a release and the only person who can deal with any prob that may come up is traveling and unreachable,
then again, we are dealing with puppyland here,
he had better things to do?! he might consider another spokesperson for a start, that is if you actually speak on his (or anyone's) behalf in any official capacity,
you are also known to have been removed as a mod, by the person you are now speaking for

Really jonyo? For someone who does not like the murga forum you sure know a lot about it. Sounds to me like you might be part of the problem. Why dont you just leave the people that like the murga forum alone. We do not care about you. Who cares if we drank the "Kool Aid" it was our choice to do so. If you dont like it tough.

and that has what to do with the topic? "Main Puppy Linux Forum Down - Status"
the status is that it is a joke, there is a whole 8 page thread about yo yo probs over years, one unreachable man alone seems to only have the the ability to do anything about whatever is going on
and if it is all lost, it is a puppy disaster,
or at the very least plenty of good works and efforts by others down the the toilet,
cry me a river,
for the kool aid lovers, i say line up and drink it quick,
here's some reality for you there kool aid supporting, 2 post wonder pupfan and whatever is on your mind,
you don't have to be associated with the old forums whatsoever and still be a supporter of pup

Some things can only be downloaded from the forum!
The Forum repo is vast. On the one hand, John has always assured us that he has it well backed-up, but no-one so far has raised the issue of who owns the IPR! The bad news is that it may not be John?! Even worse, it may not even be the originators of all those invaluable links, tips, even .pet s? Must be nearly a decade since I first mentioned these concerns, but, as ICPUG points out, we are all guilty of complacency and should've given John a lot more help a long time ago.

On 11-22-2011 the following was offered in this thread as a possible reason why John Murga forum is offline:
Quote:
I have heard that it has been attacked several times, presumably by script-kiddies without lives, perhaps this is just a sustained denial-of-service overload attack?
While there is no shortage of people who would like to see John Murga forum closed I don’t believe that’s why it’s still offline at this time.
I think it’s more likely that in his haste to leave on holiday John made a blunder and put his site out of commission all by himself - it wouldn’t be the first time.

Passwords
Regardless of if and when the murga-linux puppy forum will come up or why did it go down, there is an important bit of information that is needed now. Was it compromised? Particularly the password database.
People tend to recycle their passwords across different sites and accounts, so if this is the case they must be warn ASAP.
Apparently John Murga is the only person who has top level access to the server...and if, as Lobster stated in IRC, he is out oif town and perhaps unreachable...there is nothing anyone can do.
So, if you are really concerned about your password security....and you use the same one at Murga that you use for other sites...you'd best start changing passwords.
My personal opinion is the server was not hacked.
I think the far larger problem is that there is no administrative backup person....and we all suffer because of that.

@puppyite, if i wasn't clear i'll repeat, pls do not contact me privately, i'm not interested in private chit chat at this point, or impressed with how you go about it in attempts to resolve issues that are relevant and important to me,
we may be able to resolve issues openly, but that remains to be seen
if i am unbanned or whatever it is that is going on, i may post again in your forums if i like what i see, but certainly will only attempt to deal with any further issues that may come up there
my experience has been as you know, that you are way too involved in what someone may have to say, but if it works for you then great, it doesn't for me

Looking for who is responsible for com and followed a.gtld-servers.net.
Looking for who is responsible for murga-linux.com and followed ns2.murga-linux.com.
Nameservers for www.murga-linux.com:
ns2.murga-linux.com returned (SERVFAIL)
ns3.murga-linux.com returned (SERVFAIL)
I really don't want to get deeply involved with this discussion. But I went to the Puppy website at Puppy Linux Website and it said,

Which points to Here as the alternate forum. I am not a person that uses Puppy Much. I am not signed up at any of the forums, newsletter, etc. So I really have no idea what is going on nor do I really care. I am only stating facts.
