How to install GCC to a persistent USB install of Puppy?

I just installed Puppy 5.2 to a 1GB USB stick to utilize it as a temporary memory solution while waiting until I can afford a replacement for the broken HDD in my laptop. After installing Puppy I discovered the GCC wasn't installed after trying to compile a simple C program from the command line. I found that I needed to install the devx.sfs file for 5.2 but when I try installing the file, it says that I must first install Puppy before I can install .sfs files. I am wondering if there is some other way I can install GCC or another compiler so that I can compile C programs on Puppy while waiting for the new HDD, is there any other solution? Thanks for any help

Since you don't say you have another USB drive to install to. Then you could run the Puppy universal USB installer in 5.2 to install 5.2 to other Pendrive. Best I can do for you.

Edit: Might be worth a shot.
