How can I include OpenOffice when I remaster a live cd?
 

I am running Puppy Lucid 5.1 I have downloaded several programs including OpenOffice and would like to now remaster a live cd to include those programs. My problem is that OpenOffice doesn't get included in the remastered live cd. Can anyone give me some help on what to do? Thanks.

You have to create a system (or copy another live CD extracting from squashfs).

Then you'll need to chroot into the system binding proc and dev. Add/remove packages you want in the system.

Then get out of chroot and rebuild the OS and recompress it into squashfs so it will fit onto a CD or DVD.

Then use a bootloader (if you decompressed a live CD then you can just use its bootloader) and then rebuild the bootable ISO using the mkisofs command.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately I don't think I am yet up to the level of experience with Linux to follow your instructions. I have done a bit of searching on the terminology you used and this appears above my head. I guess I'll have to look for another approach to solving my need. Thank you for your help anyway.

Well I have some documentation which you may be able to follow. I did it in the past and documented it but the only catch is... I won't be able to give it to ya for about 3 weeks which is when I get home; I'm currently on vacation.

But you should reasonably be able to follow along as long as you understand basic terminal navigation (cd dirs, mkdir, basic stuff like that).

Keep and eye out after 3 weeks because I'll upload it to a source which you can download the tutorial from. It'll likely be in openoffice format.

With that other post I just gave you a basic outline with what you would need to do.

Until then do some research into those commands and when you start reading my tutorial in 3 weeks you'll be able to breeze through it if you understand at least some of the terminology.

Wow that sounds great. I do have basic understanding of how to work with a terminal and there is plenty of help for that as well if I run into a command I don't know. Thanks for your kind help. I'll be watching for the tutorial.

When I created/modified this tutorial I jokingly named my hacked version of Ubuntu after myself (SAMEX). It is not an actual distro so there's no need to look it up. Also if you analyze the scripts you may see limewire. I have, since, quit downloading hacked software and moved fully to open source. Please be aware that this tutorial was originally made 5 years ago in 2005 and last updated in 2009. It is written for older distros and not modern ones. However, the steps should still reasonably be similar and you can modify any of my scripts to your liking.
