guy dog issues - puppy package manager (ppm) shows zip after loading?

the advanced network setup page doesn't come up for me, which isn't a huge prob cos I found a workaround,

bigger prob is i dloaded the debian squeeze stuff (nothing else would load) in the puppy package manager (ppm), that is bare when you first open it,

witch if anyone goes there for the first time ...takes foooooorever, like hrs, and haven't a clue how much is being dloaded but a ton of text goes by

prob is nothing comes up then in the ppm to install stuff, even though the squeeze repo stuff appears to be loaded, or an option, tried basics like checking of all the boxes etc.. md5 is ok

running Guy Dog 5.0.1 in wmare and vista/sp2, 2 gigs of ram, ~3 ghz cel cpu, setup is live virtualcd with a save file ext3 (1.25 gigs) in a 2gig virtual ext3 partition with a gig virtual swap partition tia

Can't get the PPM to work correctly in my frugal install of Guy Dog either.Launching the PPM from the terminal I saw some gtkdialog2 errors. There were some other gtkdialog2 problems but I'm unsure if there's been a fix yet....probably be fixed in the next build with a new Woof.

thx, do you know what if anything much is happening during the hrs long d/loading?

hopefully not wasted bandwidth

does your advanced networking page load?

Those Debian package lists are pretty big, lots of packages. What seems to take the most time here is converting those lists into the format used by the PPM.That always seems to take a long time.

About the Networking stuff....I'll check the next time I boot into Guy Dog but my wired connection was working on boot so I didn't check any further. These early alpha releases are an adventure sometimes.

ok thx, i'll assume then that we're not talking a huge d/load waste here, cos it did go on for hrs

if we are talking big bandwidth, at least someone else might not go there

anyway, if that is the status if this distro, i'll be going on to another, though it does look very interesting, and i love the write up

If your connection to the Internet is OK then I assme there is a problem with the download site - where is it?

jonyo 11-27-2011 09:44 PM

nope, no net issues and someone else also confirmed that ~ it just doesn't load, i'll have to go back to see where the goods come from

not really interested much though, i didn't know it was still in the testing phase, i prefer stuff that is known to work, easy to figure out and with to the point available info

I had the same problem with Puppy Package Manager in Guy Dog not showing anything.
The answer is to use the update function in it to populate it. At least that worked for me.
But a word of caution is to be sure you have a working internet connection before doing so.

pretty sure i did the update routine and no net issues, but i'll have another look,

doubt that will be anytime soon
