Creating non-root user account
I could use some help in setting up a non-root account for Puppy Slacko 5.6.0
I also looked at setting up a firewall. Right now, just secure shell is checked off. Thanks. |
I'd suggest reading the page below at the Puppy site which basically explains that it is not a multi-user system.

Thanks, I read a number of articles.

Reading the article does not say it is NOT a multi user system.
Wake up guys. Puppy has a firewall program, so I figure no one uses it ?? Andy |
What use would be a firewall on a system where everything runs as root?
|
1. For Firewall simply run from set-up linux-firewall wizard.
2. Simply use Fido and Spot as described in the article for non-root use. As for this never run as root business it is a load of rot. I have run various Pups for many years with firewall enabled and I am careful about how I run my system and where I visit on the web and to be quite frank running is as non-root is not going to protect you from every thing script-wise. Basically security is down to the end-user period. Further more this guy asked a simple question and it deserved a good simple polite answer. |

Puppy Slacko 5.6.0 offers a firewall, so I assume it has a benefit. Andy |

I have gotten hardened to a few Linux users having a somewhat less than positive attitude. :-) Take care, Andy |

principle of least privilges do not apply to Puppy Slacko. No offense intended, but I feel that you are negative. I am half German. Meine Mutter war in Hannover Deutschland im Jahr 1929 geboren. . |

Is that your story and you are sticking to it. ?? :-)
Andy Your responses have brought many smiles to me. :-) No problem, my mother is also prideful and stubborn. |
Sorry if I sound harsh, but I am just fed up with the discussion that comes up every so often about running your system as root, where people argue "It is OK to run your system as root because of $ANECDOTAL_EVIDENCE", while every security expert on this planet disagrees with them. This has nothing to do with being prideful or stubborn.
So, yes, that is my story and I am sticking to it. |
