Coasting driving me mad. How to remove.

Hello
I have xenialpup64 7.5 frugal on dell vostro 1320, 2.2ghz, 2gb ram and am driven to distraction by the touchpad coasting. Is there any way to completely remove this facility as I cannot get on with it at all.
Thanks

There is a setting in the Synaptics Control Panel.
How you access that, is your guess.
I completely removed all Synaptics Software/firmware from my Vostro as it interferes with other software as well and is extremely intrusive. The basic touchpad software is good enough for me.

If I remember correctly, there was a BIOS setting as well. I don't often use that machine as I have had to replace the screen and it is still using the wrong cable from the Graphics chip. As it needs a dismantle to change it and I have another working machine, it is waiting till the need is greater.

@ diode84/number77:-

This is now two threads you've got on the go for this 'problem', across 2 different forums. How many more are you going to start?

I would see if I could 'help out' with this one, but since I'm on the big desktop today, and it doesn't have a touchpad, naturally enough FISynclient isn't available to me.....so I can't even look at it.

What exactly do you mean by 'coasting', anyway? It's not something I've ever even noticed on the old Inspiron laptop, but from what I can see of it, it may be peculiar to the Vostros. I can't say as I'm familiar with that model line, so I couldn't speak with any degree of certainty in any case.

Mike thanks for answering.
I mean the touchpad seems to think it has a scroll wheel and the position of if varies over the touchpad surface. Its set up in mouse wizard as a usb mouse, as advised with no scroll wheel or middle button emulation. I call it scrolling because the first reply on the other forum gave examples.
At the moment the right hand side of the touchpad acts like a scroll wheel and pages up and down the screen and this position is more sensitive sometimes, any touch on the touchpad seems to scroll, in seconds I have lost my position on the page.
I would like to disable this facility if possible.

open a terminal, enter 'synclient'.
(i hope this command is available on puppy)
try to make some sense of the settings you see. maybe it's very clear, like 'SideScroll=1'?
enter 'man synclient' to get a picture of how you can change settings on the fly.
once you succesfully disabled the side scroll or whatever it's called, we can think about making it persistent.

PS: it is likely that puppy has a GUI for all this.

Yes synclient does give about 60 lines, man client doesnt.
I have saved synclient output but cant make out how to attach the file yet.

t# synclient
Parameter settings:
LeftEdge = 153
RightEdge = 870
TopEdge = 115
BottomEdge = 652
FingerLow = 9
FingerHigh = 9
MaxTapTime = 180
MaxTapMove = 56
MaxDoubleTapTime = 100
SingleTapTimeout = 180

A few of the lines.

I am almost there. Flsynclient has been changed in xenialpup64 7.5 from the flsynclient in tahr605 and does not give me the option to disable vertical edge scrolling. I may go back to tahr605, it worked for me long enough.
I will close this question now as it seems to be causing trouble.
Thank you all for the help.
All the best

no, 'man synclient'. practically every executable has a man page of the same name.
i strongly suggest getting into the habit of reading man pages.

I haven't used them before but will investigate.
Thanks
