Smile Bionicpup, message: Error loading backdrop image: image file /usr/share/backgrounds/default.jpg/ contains no data Backdrop removed.

Hi,
After start up I get this message:

Error loading backdrop image: image file /usr/share/backgrounds/default.jpg/ contains no data Backdrop removed.

Everything seems to be fine. The file is present in the file manager, and loads just fine. Doggy is there.
It's just this message I want to get rid off.

Many thanks

ps could not find this issue in this forum, apoligies if I overlooked.

@ Edward4m:-

Hmm. Now this is not an issue I've ever come across, in over 6 years of using Puppy as a daily driver. Let me have a think; there's workarounds for everything with Puppy!

O-kay. Try this:-

Download this image from my Google Drive:-

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LlB...ew?usp=sharing

This is the Bionicpup64 'default' background wallpaper. What I've done is simply to open it in the GIMP, followed by re-exporting it as a PNG image, as opposed to a JPG image.....plus giving it a different name. I don't know why exactly, but this often works for me with recalcitrant JPG images in Puppy; exporting from GIMP seems to allow the GIMP to 'adjust' the file's metadata so that this kind of thing doesn't re-occur.

Place this image in /usr/share/backgrounds. From the Menu, open Menu->Desktop->JWM DeskManager. Click on the first 'button', top-left corner; 'Backgrounds'. Select "BP64-1.png" as the image you want, then hit the 'Apply Wallpaper' button. Assuming you've got a save-folder set-up already, this image will then be saved for use on subsequent starts.

That should prevent the message from re-appearing again. If it doesn't, however, it's an indication of a deeper, underlying issue.....quite possibly a bad download of the original ISO. May need re-downloading, and re-installing; not a long job for Puppy. 5 minutes, tops.

Let us know what happens, please!

Mike.

Hi Mike, your solution seems to be working, did a couple of reboots and the messages is gone.
I deleted the 'bad' file from the Backgrounds folder.
Thanks!

I made it slightly darker. More friendly to my eyes, no offence.

Makes perfect sense, even for a computer nitwit like me! But the 'How to' I failed to figure out.
Normally this can easily be done in Geany text editor. But I stopped there to be on the safe side.
Thanks for your suggestion, nevertheless!

I need help guys I get this exact same error but on my custom distro based on antiX. There's nothing wrong with the file I'm using because it was already working before on my previous releases. It even loads the image for a second before it gives the error message (which is so infuriating I just can't).

actually it's the same error except for the fact that it says
"....Error loading: "" no such file. Backdrop removed"

Sadshark,
please make the effort to formulate a proper problem description in a dedicated thread.
