Aliases don't execute after placing them in .bashrc or .bash_aliases in 2.16

I am playing with Puppy 2.16 now. I also use Puppy 4 (great distro) and aliases execute on it.

I entered aliases in 2.16. I have entered aliases both .bashrc and .bash_aliases. I rebooted it and they still don't work.

When I enter
Code:
source ~/.bashrc
in rxvt, the aliases do work for the session. On reboot, I have do the command again.

Any help in rooting out this problem would be appreciated.

Your .profile or .bash_login script is better place to source a .aliases file. By the way, what is your default shell? A different shell may use a different startup script.

I believe it is bash shell.

I copied my /etc/profile from Puppy 4 to 2.16. And I now have the aliases working properly. My aliases are stored in ~/.bash_aliases. I don't seem to have a .bash_login file.
